Live music promoter Lucy Wood was intrigued by the emergence of behaviours such as talking and smartphone use at her gigs. So, she undertook a piece of pioneering sociological research to capture exactly what people do when they experience live music, and why.

Despite being huge business, and a generator of huge happiness for fans, very little academic research has been done on what people actually do at gigs. Lucy set out to address this, armed with a birdwatching app, and presents her findings for the first time at BIGSOUND.
