690 Ann Street
Fortitude Valley

1862: Moses Ward, chemist and surgical dentist, arrives in Queensland after leaving his former home of Devonshire, England. That same year, The Apothecaries Hall became his home, his dispensary and the beginning of his family chemist.

Set in the same premises of Moses Ward’s chemist, The APOthecary of today has reinvented itself as a contemporary bar and restaurant, dispensing sophisticated food and drinks. The Apothecaries Hall is considered one of the oldest buildings in Fortitude Valley, if not Brisbane, that is still intact and retains its original character.

Historically, an apothecary functioned by listening to each individuals problems or worries; creating a bespoke elixir to cure every ailment. Paying tribute to the colourful history of The Apothecaries Hall, The APO dispenses custom drinks designed to put a spring in your step… A remedy for all that ails you.

Open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and lunch Wednesday through Sunday, our menu focuses on seasonal ingredients to deliver share plates, bar snacks and larger meals.

Overlooking Bakery Lane and the bustling Ann Street, The APO is home to a contrast of spaces that are suited to any occasion, intimate or large. Downstairs the venue boasts a courtyard and street level bistro, while upstairs offers our timber lined ‘loft’ style main bar, balcony spaces and private dining room.

Relax, sit back, soak in the past and stay a while…
