As the wider music industry attempts to be more inclusive, some artists are resistant to being told their attitudes won’t wash in this new era. If true punk is expressing exactly what you want to say without self-restriction, how does that work in a world that takes a zero-tolerance approach to causing offence? Nowhere is this more important than in the traditionally edgy world of heavy music.

The panel will also look at how sponsorship and corporate monetisation of music sits the with the common ideology of many punk and metal bands. In no other scene is ‘selling out’ considered with as much disdain, but these scenes are not immune from declining record sales. And, as streaming numbers lag behind those of pop and hip hop, we’ll look at whether heavy music fans are less inclined to adapt.
