Jess Carniel is a cultural studies academic from the University of Southern Queensland. Her research focuses on ideas of culture, community, and identity in Australian popular culture from music to television, from literature to sport, and maintains a particular focus on gender and ethnic diversity within this. Jess is currently writing a book about Australia's obsession with the Eurovision Song Contest (forthcoming, Palgrave 2018).
